JavaScript arrays have a set of non-mutating methods—map, filter, slice, concat, flat, and flatMap—that each return a new array without modifying the original. These copying methods always produce a shallow copy, meaning nested objects in the result share references with the originals. Understanding which methods mutate versus which return new arrays is fundamental to predictable data manipulation.
