Data blending combines separate data sources by sending independent queries to each one and merging the results visually in a view. Because the secondary data source is queried independently, every mark in the view can trigger a separate lookup against that source, creating significant performance overhead. Switching to relationships or joins consolidates the data structure, allowing Tableau to generate optimized, context-aware queries that run faster and use fewer resources.
