Table calculations compute values by addressing and partitioning data across rows and columns in a view. Hiding a mark removes it from the visual display while preserving it in the calculation's underlying context, whereas filtering removes it entirely from both. Using hide instead of filter prevents broken calculation chains when boundary values naturally produce blank results.
