Tableau combines tables using joins or relationships, which fundamentally differ in how they handle row duplication during analysis. Joins flatten data into a single merged table that replicates rows and measures at the finest grain level, often inflating aggregates. Relationships keep tables separate and link them dynamically, automatically preventing unwanted duplication by aggregating measures before combining them with dimensions.
