The Workbook Optimizer is a tool in Tableau Desktop, Tableau Cloud and Tableau Server that checks a workbook against a set of performance best practices before you publish it. It sorts each guideline into Take action, Needs review, or Passed, so an author can make easy fixes right away and judge the harder ones. It only reads the workbook's metadata, so it catches common design problems but not every cause of slow performance.
Core information
  • The Workbook Optimizer finds out whether a workbook follows certain performance best practices. A rules engine evaluates only what it can read from the workbook's metadata. Not every recommendation fits every workbook.
More details and nuances
  • Passed does not mean the workbook is fast, because many aspects of performance are not captured by the Optimizer. For a performance benchmark, use the Performance Recorder.
