Dynamic Zone Visibility shows or hides a dashboard zone based on the value of a field or a parameter. When you pair it with a parameter action, a viewer's click on a mark changes the parameter, and that change makes a hidden zone appear. This lets a dashboard reveal deeper detail only when the viewer asks for it, without giving up the layout you designed.
Core information
  • Dynamic Zone Visibility hides or reveals a zone, meaning a tiled or floating dashboard element, based on the value of a field or a parameter. Zones appear or disappear as viewers interact, and the layout you designed stays intact. It applies to Tableau Desktop, Tableau Cloud, and Tableau Server.
More details and nuances
  • The calculation must be on the Marks card (for example, on Details) before it can be the action's Source Field. This follows a broader rule: a parameter used by a parameter action must also be referenced somewhere in the viz, such as in a calculated field or through a source field used in the view.
