A FIXED Level of Detail calculation computes values at a specified granularity independent of the dimensions displayed in your view. Because Tableau evaluates FIXED expressions before applying dimension filters, these calculations inherently ignore standard view filters while still respecting context, data source, and extract filters. This behavior allows you to calculate stable baselines, such as overall totals, that remain constant even when users slice the data.
