An app manifest is a configuration file, written in YAML or JSON, that describes how a Slack app is set up. It covers the app's name and description, features, scopes, event subscriptions, and more. Manifests make an app's configuration portable, so you can create a preconfigured app, clone a production app for development, or share a setup with another team.
Core information
  • Every Slack app has a manifest. It is a coded version of your app's configuration, so you can keep it in version control such as GitHub, where collaborators can quickly see how the app is set up.
More details and nuances
  • apps.manifest.update entirely replaces the previous configuration. The manifest you send must contain both the unmodified fields and the modified ones, not just your edits.
