Workspace apps were an app type offered as a developer preview, and Slack fully retired them in August 2021. Today, every new Slack app starts as a single-workspace app: a normal Slack app installed only in the workspace it is associated with. The two names sound alike, but only the single-workspace app is a current way to build.
Core information
  • Legacy workspace apps have been fully deprecated as of August 2021, and their developer preview has ended. Do not build new apps on that model or use its legacy workspace token type.
More details and nuances
  • Watch the wording. A single-workspace app is a current Slack app that has not been distributed, while a workspace app is the retired preview app type.
