Block Kit Builder is a visual prototyping tool for designing Slack app layouts made from Block Kit blocks. You pick, arrange, and preview blocks without writing code, and the tool gives you the JSON your app sends to Slack. Every Block Kit layout is structured JSON, so the Builder lets a developer or designer see and adjust a design quickly before the app ever sends it.
Core information
  • Block Kit is Slack's UI framework. Blocks are visual components that you stack into layouts on surfaces such as messages, modals, and the Home tab. Block elements are usually interactive components, such as buttons and menus. Composition objects define text, options, and other features inside blocks and elements.
More details and nuances
  • The Builder has a dedicated mode for designing modals. This mode reveals blocks that only modals can use, such as the input block. More generally, some blocks can only be used on particular surfaces.
