Slack builds its own tools for app developers, such as the Slack CLI, the Bolt frameworks, and the Slack SDKs. Other developers also publish open source libraries, plugins, and apps, and these cover many more programming languages. Knowing what each kind of tool gives you helps you pick a starting point for a Slack app.
Core information
  • First-party tools are the ones Slack builds and offers itself. They include the Slack CLI, the Bolt frameworks, the Slack SDKs, developer sandboxes, Block Kit Builder, and the Slack Send GitHub Action, which sends data to Slack.
More details and nuances
  • Features vary from one community library to the next, so check what each one handles. For example, HubSpot's slack-client is a Java wrapper around the Slack Web API with robust rate limit handling, while Slack.Webhooks is a simpler integration with incoming and outgoing webhooks. Bolt, by contrast, includes retry and rate-limiting logic automatically.
