Every Slack app starts out tied to the one workspace where you created it. To let other workspaces install it, you add an OAuth 2.0 install flow, serve every app URL over SSL, and plan for onboarding and admin approval. Then you turn on distribution in the app's settings.
Core information
  • A new app is associated with a single workspace. Clicking Install App to Workspace gives you an access token without writing any authorization code, but that token only works in the associated workspace. Undistributed apps can use the full range of app capabilities, but they can't be installed on other workspaces.
More details and nuances
  • Even an app that stays in one workspace needs an OAuth 2.0 flow if it must take action on behalf of other users.
