Next conceptPreparing an app for distribution to other workspaces

Explainer

Every Slack app starts out tied to one workspace, and you can install it there from the Install App page with a few clicks to get its tokens. To let other workspaces install the app, you must build an OAuth 2.0 install flow that generates tokens in code. Keeping an app on a single workspace skips that work, which suits internal tools.
Core information
  • Every new Slack app is tied to the workspace you choose when you create it. By default, only that associated workspace can install it, and only its users can install it, subject to your app approval process.
More details and nuances
  • Single-workspace does not always mean no OAuth. User tokens are issued to the user who installed the app and to users who authenticate the app, so a single-workspace app that must act on behalf of other users still needs an OAuth 2.0 flow.
