A product roadmap is a plan of action and shared source of truth that says what you will deliver and when, so the many teams who launch a product can align. It works only when discovery has already made the destination clear: the strategic rationale, user and business outcomes, a validated value proposition, and the customer problems that matter most. Treat it as a living document that changes as you learn, not as details written in permanent marker.
