Multi-tenancy on the Lightning Platform delivers one application to many organizations (different companies or departments) from a single hardware-software stack, rather than giving each tenant its own complete set of hardware and software. Salesforce places a software layer between that shared instance and each organization's deployment so tenants see only their own data and schemas while Salesforce reorganizes data behind the scenes. Developers work inside that model: org customizations are metadata a runtime engine turns into application components, and Apex runs on the same shared Lightning Platform as every other organization.
