Agentforce agents finish work by running actions, which are tools that look up data, change records, or call other Salesforce automation. Developers turn Apex into one of those tools by annotating a method with @InvocableMethod, which makes the method available as a custom action in Agentforce Builder. The agent can then select that action during reasoning instead of the developer wiring every conversation path by hand.

  • Actions are how agents get things done: after the agent selects a subagent, it launches an action from that subagent's library to complete the request.
More details and nuances
  • If an input is required on the @InvocableVariable in Apex, the action's Require input setting is on by default and read-only, so a missing value blocks the run. Every other input is treated as optional unless you require it on the action.
