You cannot write Apex in a Salesforce production org. You build the code in a sandbox, a scratch org, or a Developer Edition org, then deploy it to production only after unit tests show it runs correctly. Production deployments enforce coverage and compilation rules and recompile Apex during the deploy so users do not see reduced performance immediately afterward.

  • You cannot develop Apex in your Salesforce production org. Development work is done in a sandbox, a scratch org, or a Developer Edition org, because writing Apex is a change that must be made in a development environment to safeguard production.

  • Calls to System.debug are not counted as part of Apex code coverage, and neither are test methods and test classes. If a test calls another class or causes a trigger to execute, that class or trigger is included in the coverage calculations.
