Agentforce agents meet people on channels: Lightning Experience, the Salesforce mobile app, Slack, messaging platforms, email, and voice. However, channel support is not the same for every agent. Employee agents are for the workforce: activating them puts them in the Agentforce panel and mobile app, and you can add Slack plus Enhanced Chat. Service agents are for customers: they take Enhanced Chat, other enhanced messaging, Service Email, and voice. Choose the agent type first, because the type decides which connections you can attach.
