A topic is a job your agent can do; Salesforce renamed topics to subagents in April 2026 with no change in functionality. Assigning an action to a topic attaches a tool the agent can use to get information or complete work for that job. The agent keeps its own copy of each assigned action, then either lets a large language model (LLM) choose the action while reasoning or runs the action on a fixed path before reasoning starts.
