An Agentforce agent's execution identity is the Salesforce user whose profile, permissions, field-level security, and sharing rules actually bound the agent's actions, not necessarily the person talking to the agent. Employee agents inherit the logged-in employee's access, Lead Nurturing agents always run as a dedicated EinsteinSDRAgent User, and Service agents run as an EinsteinServiceAgent User unless credential-based user verification switches them to the logged-in Experience Cloud site user. That identity is why the same action can return different records, or fail, depending on which agent type and channel is in play.

  • Execution context varies by agent type, channel, and whether credential-based user verification is enabled, so two agents answering similar questions can be bound by completely different Salesforce access controls.
More details and nuances
  • A verified Service customer who has a contact record but no user record (for example after an OTP) is not a Salesforce user: the agent still runs as EinsteinServiceAgent User, org-wide defaults for internal users apply, and context variables still do not restrict records. Only an authenticated Experience Cloud site user with credential-based user verification enabled switches execution identity to the logged-in site user, whose org-wide defaults then depend on whether that user is internal or external.
