Agent API is how an app or a Flow holds a live conversation with an Agentforce agent: it starts a session, sends and receives messages, then ends the session. Choose it when the need is to talk to an already activated agent through a REST call or through Flow session actions. Other Agentforce APIs and SDKs cover testing, activating, or invoking the agent as a one-shot task, and those are the right recommendation when you are not running a session conversation.
