Context engineering is the work of giving an Agentforce agent the right information, tools, and instructions so it can reach its goals. Prompt engineering is narrower: it focuses on those direct instructions. Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) is narrower in a different way: it focuses on retrieving the right content, while context engineering covers the full set of everything available to the model.
