Subagents and actions are an agent's most important assets: a subagent is a job the agent can do, and an action is a tool it runs to get that job done. A subagent groups related actions with instructions that tell the agent how to make decisions. Collectively, the subagents assigned to an agent define the capabilities it can handle.

  • Unlike a subagent, which is a category of work for a particular job, an action is how the agent gets things done in Salesforce: it uses an action to get information or perform a task.
More details and nuances
  • When you add an action to a subagent, it is added to both action definitions (the catalog of actions relevant to that job, including name, description, inputs, outputs, and the reference action) and reasoning actions (what the agent may take while reasoning with the LLM). Action definitions are not visible in Canvas view; they appear in Script view.
