Salesforce can roll expected sales up the user role hierarchy or up the territory hierarchy. Role-based forecasts follow who reports to whom among forecast users; territory-based forecasts follow the territory tree and roll up as a territory only after a forecast manager is assigned. You can run both at once, but each model has its own manager-assignment process and different rules for who can view forecasts, adjust amounts, or mark opportunities in or out of the forecast.
