Salesforce Connect reaches data that lives outside the current org through a protocol-specific adapter. When you define an external data source, you choose that adapter in the Type field so people can work with the remote data as external objects. Pick the adapter that matches where the data lives and how it is exposed: another Salesforce org, an OData producer, SQL, GraphQL, Amazon DynamoDB, Salesforce Archive, or a custom Apex connector when none of the others fit.
