Multi-factor authentication (MFA) requires a registered identity verification method in addition to a username and password, so a password alone cannot complete a login. Salesforce requires MFA for internal users who access production orgs and sandboxes, including all UI logins, and enforces those requirements in the summer of 2026. External users and API integration logins are not required to use MFA unless an administrator extends the requirement.
