Number, currency, and percent fields store numeric values and differ mainly in how Salesforce formats and rounds what users enter. Number is a general real number, currency formats an amount, and percent turns a decimal such as 0.10 into 10%. Length (digits left of the decimal) and Decimal Places (digits right of the decimal) set the scale, and changing those settings can change what is stored or displayed.
