Contacts to Multiple Accounts lets you relate one person to several companies on a single contact record instead of duplicating that person. Every contact still needs a primary account in the Account Name field; that link is the direct relationship, and every extra company is an indirect relationship. Salesforce stores each link as an Account Contact Relationship record, and it creates those records for every contact that has a primary account and for every person account.
