A Salesforce report can only use the records and fields that its report type, the template that defines which objects and columns are in play, makes available, and you cannot switch that type after the report exists. When a field is missing from the builder or looks gone from the run results, the cause is usually the report type or its field layout, a grouping or formula rule, a filter, or the user's field permissions on the records. Custom report types expose only the fields an administrator placed on the layout, including optional lookup fields from related objects.
