A bucket field (also called a bucket column) lets you categorize report records into named groups without creating a formula or a custom field. You pick one existing field on the report, define the groups, and then sort, filter, or group by those categories like any other column. When a source value changes, the record moves to the matching bucket on its own.

Core information
  • A bucket field is a report column made of multiple named buckets. Name it for the grouping as a whole (Size, Deal Size, Priority), then choose the source field from the report type.
More details and nuances
  • The bucket exists only on the report that created it. To reuse the same grouping, recreate the bucket on each report or add a formula field on the object instead.
