Agentforce does not get a separate security model. An agent can only read or change data that its running user is allowed to read or change, using the same licenses, permissions, field-level security, and sharing you already apply to people. The Einstein Trust Layer then grounds prompts in trusted company data, keeps third-party large language models from retaining or training on that data, and logs the interaction. The exam distinction is who that running user is: the logged-in employee, a dedicated agent user, or (only with extra setup) a logged-in Experience Cloud site user.

  • Agents respect standard Salesforce access controls: licenses, permissions, field-level security, and sharing settings. If the running user cannot see a field or record, the agent cannot use it either.
More details and nuances
  • Trust Layer data masking is disabled for agents so the model keeps needed context, such as account details when asked for similar accounts. Personally identifiable information is still protected in transit and is not stored or used for training by external LLM providers, but it is sent to the model unmasked. A prompt template called through an agent action has masking off; the same template used directly, such as in service replies, still applies Trust Layer masking.
