Tasks and events are both Salesforce activities, but they track different kinds of work. A task is a to-do you assign, relate to a record, and complete; an event is a scheduled meeting you put on a calendar and can invite others to. That split decides where users look for the work, how reminders fire, and whether you assign people or invite them.
