A report type join is the related-object chain you define on a custom report type, including whether parent records appear only when they have children or with or without those children. A joined report is a report format that stacks up to five blocks, each from one standard or custom report type, so you can view those datasets in a single report. Use a report type join to decide which records and fields a report can see; use a joined report when existing report types already share common fields and you want them side by side.
