Salesforce stores customer work on standard objects: built-in containers such as Account, Contact, Lead, and Opportunity. An account is a company you do business with, or a person account when the customer is a single individual; contacts are the people at that company; and those records sit at the center of related opportunities, cases, and activities. How objects are linked (lookup, master-detail, or a junction that creates many-to-many) controls what appears together, what is deleted together, and who owns and can share the child records.
