A flow variable is a container that holds one piece of information the flow can change as it runs. Variables are one kind of resource, the values you reference throughout a flow, alongside constants, formulas, text templates, choices, and record collections. Most flows need at least one variable so they can remember a record ID, a user choice, a calculation, or fields retrieved from Salesforce and use that value in a later element.
