Standard matching rules are Salesforce-provided definitions that decide when two accounts, contacts, or leads look like the same company or person. They exist so the platform can warn (or stop) users who are about to save a look-alike record, using fuzzy field scoring instead of only exact text. You cannot change these built-in rules; if they miss your cases, you create a custom matching rule and pair it with a duplicate rule that decides what happens next.
