A formula field is a custom field whose value is calculated from other fields, operators, and functions rather than typed in. You configure it like any custom field: choose the data type that matches the result, write the expression, then set who can see it and which page layouts show it. The exam work is matching output type to the calculation, staying inside character and compile limits, and knowing a formula can reach related parent fields but cannot total child records the way a roll-up summary can.
