After a user logs in, Salesforce keeps a session so they stay authenticated without signing in on every click. Organization Session Settings are the org-wide controls that decide how long an idle session lasts, whether it is tied to an IP address or domain, and how strongly each login method is treated, so an unattended or stolen session is harder to reuse. You set the defaults in Setup under Session Settings; a user profile can override the org timeout and the security level required at login when some people need tighter rules than the rest of the org.
